Description:

This presentation teaches clinicians in the home hospice setting how to place the catheter and administer medications. The training instructs nurses on when the Macy Catheter is used when oral and sublingual medications are ineffective. Nurses will receive a certificate in Macy Catheter Training after completing the competency exam and course evaluation.

1. At the completion of this training the participant will be able to demonstrate proper Macy Catheter placement and medication administration via the catheter.
2. At the completion of this training the participant will be able to list the contraindications and steps for trouble shooting when using the Macy Catheter.
3. At the completion of this training the participant will be able to verbalize why sublingual medication does not work for severe symptom management.
4. At the completion of this training the participant will be able to verbalize how the Macy Catheter can offer the quickest symptom management possible in the home setting when sublingual and oral medication fails.
