About the Macy Catheter®.
Patients often need medications and fluids when the oral route is compromised. Patented,FDA cleared, and CE marked, the Macy Catheter® provides access to the clinically proven rectal route of administration. It is designed to make the rectal route a practical, painless and dignified alternative for those medications that can be prescribed per rectum. The Macy Catheter can be used in multiple settings, including in hospice and palliative care, home health, skilled nursing facilities, and the emergency department. Once the Macy Catheter is placed by a clinician, the medication port is easily and discreetly accessible on the patient’s leg or abdomen, allowing for repeated delivery of medication without the need to invade the patient’s privacy or reposition the patient. The inflated retention balloon is smaller and softer than typical stool in the rectum, so defecation is unlikely to be stimulated and the patient is unlikely to feel the balloon.
